🚑 Episode 4: First Aid... Minutes That Can Save a Life
🤔 Did you know that taking the right action during the first few minutes of an emergency can save a life and reduce serious complications?
First aid is the immediate care provided to an injured or ill person before professional medical assistance arrives. Its primary goals are to preserve life, prevent the condition from worsening, and promote recovery.
🩺 Basic Principles of First Aid
✅ Ensure the scene is safe for both yourself and the injured person.
✅ Stay calm and call for help or emergency medical services when needed.
✅ Check the person's responsiveness, breathing, and pulse.
✅ Do not move the injured person if a neck or spinal injury is suspected unless there is an immediate life-threatening danger.
🚨 What Should You Do in Common Emergencies?
🩸 Cuts and Bleeding
Apply direct pressure to the wound using a clean cloth.
Elevate the injured limb if possible.
Cover the wound with a sterile dressing.
🔥 Burns
Cool the burned area under cool running water for 20 minutes.
Do not apply ice, toothpaste, or any home remedies.
Cover the burn with a clean, non-stick dressing.
😮💨 Choking
Encourage the person to cough if they are able to breathe.
If they cannot breathe or speak, call emergency medical services immediately and begin appropriate first aid if you are trained.
🩹 Nosebleeds
Help the person sit upright and lean slightly forward.
Pinch the soft part of the nose continuously for 10–15 minutes.
❌ Common Mistakes to Avoid
❌ Applying toothpaste to burns.
❌ Moving an injured person unnecessarily after an accident.
❌ Giving food or drinks to an unconscious person.
❌ Removing an object embedded in a wound.
💚 Remember
Providing the right first aid at the right time can prevent complications and save lives. However, first aid does not replace professional medical care when it is needed.
